Congratulations to All The Go Sober for October Heroes
For those of us who decided to give up the booze for the whole month, Sober October has been a challenging yet worthwhile sacrifice. As well as raising oodles of much needed donations for the MacMillan Cancer charity, we’ve managed to treat our bodies and our bank balances to a little pre-Christmas treat. By banishing those unwanted hangovers and wasted mornings from our schedules, there are a whole host of other benefits that the abstinence of alcohol brings to the table. Some are less obvious and others are simple common sense, for those who have stood up to be counted, the rest of this article is for you – the Go Sober Heroes!
Can it change your life?
Well, this depends on how dependant you actually were on alcohol before October rolled up. If you enjoyed a drink but knew when to say no, the month of abstinence is going to be great for your body as far as a detox goes but maybe you weren’t in such bad shape in the beginning anyway. For those of us who felt the need for a drink pretty much every day, hopefully the clarity and reclaimed quality of life is enough to bring you back to your senses.
Weight off your mind
Most of us are having a constant battle with the dreaded bathroom scales and the fact that alcohol is nothing but empty calories as far as our diet is concerned should raise alarm bells from the outset. So it’s very likely that you will see an improvement in your body shape!
Focus and vision
It is a fact that leaving alcohol off the menu will not only make you feel more alert and sharper, but you will be ready for action just a few minutes after waking up in the mornings. Because your sleep will be of a better quality, you may even need less hours. These extra minutes, or even hours, are going to allow you so much more time when it comes to planning and organising your day in and out of the office. For those who drink regularly, it can take 3 or 4 hours of fuzzy-headed feeling before we even hit second or third gear. So make hay while the sun shines and you may be looking at a promotion a lot sooner than you thought!
Increased Hydration
By dropping the booze from your daily intake your body will be extremely happy with your new life. Due to added water intake your skin and hair will start to look better than ever before. You will have also flushed harmful toxins out of your body and may see an increase your metabolism to boot!
Stay sober and proud!
They say that every marathon begins with a few steps and that is certainly true in this case. You have defied the odds and more importantly proved to yourself that when the chips are down you can step up to the plate and score a home run for yourself and for Macmillan Cancer. So why not continue this trend and see how many more goals you can set and achieve because life is there for the taking – Well done you!
